special almond joy edition of this, i wish i opened the bottle a little sooner, but an awesome seattle only variant on their own version of willettized, very cool project. i like this with the extra ingredients a little better than i liked it on its own, where it seemed just a bit more exposed on the oxidation than this one, where the enriching almond and coconut especially cover up a lot of that. the cocoa is cool too, brings out the roast character, coffee and light smoke and barrel char, all to the fore. not amazing head retention on these, but the aroma rules, whiskey for sure, a little sweet there, but some bitterness from the roast plenty balances it. i also get the coconut front and center, which has a sort of toasted richness, nice with the sweeter middle malt layers. the almond is most subtle, but its not invisible, and its rad with the whiskey. the flavor is a little more robust to me than the taste, where its a little bit melted it on itself, coconut up front, roast and bitterness on the back end, the barrel is prominent, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, molasses, maple, while the almond hits right on the swallow, sort of amaretto-esque with the booziness this carries. maybe slightly thin compared to the more well known willettized brew, but these flavors work really well in here. espresso, chocolate brownie, and the coconut to finish. one of only a handful of beers ive seen bottled from lagunitas seattle...
