such a cool and delicious beer, the innovation from lagunitas that has been missing! made with only oats, which is just crazy, and also as a collaboration with old caz, who i know very little about, but the beer is splendid, new zealand hops, super modern, really unique and beery in subtle ways, drinkable too though, and just a dynamite ipa overall, holy cow. super blonde and light and not really looking as ambitious as it really is, an entirely oat grain bill is wild, but this isnt all starch, its somewhat hazy and real pale, easygoing looking though, just below average white head from the tap, lots of carbonation, upbeat and bright, some body apparent but its not soupy like i expected it to be. the nose is earthy in a way thats kind of rich and sweet without being cooked or anything, unique in that sense, like a malt hot steep rather than being all the way fermented into beer or something, lots of hops, melon and lemon verbena and white wine and good weed all come out, modern and enlivening, rises above the oats to make this somewhat springy and delicate even though its loaded with structure from the oats, fresh as can be, cleanly fermented. the flavor is very hop driven, the grain is as much a texture as a flavor, and i feel like its more of a contributor in the aroma somehow, like its mild in taste, subtle sweetness to it, some granola character, but the hops do kind of steal the show, much as the oats make it long and smooth and protein rich and all, this is a great expression of new zealand hops, honeydew and meyer lemon and lime leaf and kiwi and chardonnay, with white floral character and an almost aloe lushness, really good, intense without being bitter, long and silky with the oats, distinctive in texture for sure. id love to know a little more about how this is made, like do they use a mash filter or something? didnt think this much oat was possible, but leave it to these guys to figure it out! fun one, would love to drink it again. maybe could have added it as a hazy ipa, but either way, its fire.
