Served on-draught into a pilsner glass last night at Sunset Beer Co. Cost was $6.00. Expectations were fairly high. Reviewed from notes.
A: Pours a 1.5 finger beige colour head of soft frothy complexion. Decent thickness. Pretty good (~3-4 minute) retention. Body colour is a clear translucent copper. Nice even consistent lacing as the head recedes. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Not as creamy as I'd like. Nice vibrance.
Sm: Onion. Floral hops. Pale malts. Unexpected milky character. High malt content for the style - especially considering Lagunitas brewed it. Sweet caramel and pale malts. Trademark Lagunitas hop extract oil notes. An above average strength aroma. No yeast or alcohol is detectable. Appealing, and different than most Lagunitas beers in the style.
T: Hm. Abrupt floral hop and light citrus hop character. Pale malts dominate the malt side of things, with some light caramalt coming through too. Onion; this may be the first beer I've experienced this in and I'm not a fan. Prominent lavender on the finish; I despise lavender. The distinctive Lagunitas hop extract oil notes are surprisingly tame here. Clean, pleasant, and approachable. A dash of nectary character.
Mf: Smooth and wet, with adequate coarseness to coax out the flavour. Lightly oily. Good carbonation. Suits the flavour profile well, but doesn't feel custom-tailored to it. Good presence on the palate.
Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable, but not unique or special. Another beer joins the ranks of the usual Lagunitas hop extract contingency. Good but not great - again, in classic Lagunitas fashion. Quite downable; I could kill a 6er of this in a night. Hides its ABV well. I'd certainly get it again. A solid brew.
