On-tap at The Big Cheese

A: The beer pours a golden straw color with a nice white head on it.

S: Not really what I was expecting. Smells like a spiced/mulled cider. Apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg are prevalent on the nose. Bready malts, assorted fruits, and a touch of grassy hops are also present.

T: A light maltiness to the beer, which is mostly in the form of bread. Sweet all around with more of that apple cider type flavor. Cinnamon and nutmeg are there as well.

M: Light to medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation.

O: My ticking colleague t0rin0 thought this was great, but I wasn't so as big of a fan. I like ciders, but not so much beers that have intense cidery notes.

Sampled 4/2/2011 at the brewpub.

Pours clear dark yellow with off-white head, decent retention, low lacing.

Aroma is strangely spicy. I get cinamon for sure but also some grape, bread, and grass.

Flavor is maibock (clean German lager with some malt and bread), spices (I get ginger and cinamon), and some grape. Unfortunately I detect a bit of apple as well. Definitely a bit sweeter than the average maibock. I think this is the reason that I enjoyed it more.

Body is light, drinkable and enjoyable even if it is strange.
