Soproni IPA was the first IPA made by a major brewery in Hungary quite some time ago and it became quite a success it seems that in recent years another big fish came out with its IPA: Borsodi. I just had to try it, not only because I’m Hungarian but also because I’m curious what they came up with.
The Borsodi IPA looks quite nice actually, slight amber in color and has quite a nice aroma too. I personally was expecting the taste to follow but I - again, personally - found it a bit too thin. Actually, it was more like a session IPA to me. Nothing foul or anything, just a bit watered down. My wife, on the other hand went on great lengths to explain how orange-y and peachy it tasted like. Takes all kinds, I guess.
Anyhow, my verdict is that it is a better made IPA than what Soproni makes, more refined, closer to what a real IPA is like. Not bad, Borsodi!
