Had on tap. Clear golden body with a small flat white head that is short lived. Smell and taste are clones: sweet corn notes to the euro malts, generic bready yeast with little to no definition. Feel is wispy and light, malt runs this though a layer of yeast tries to bring some interest with vague crust tones. Just kind of bland

Poured from 500mL can into a tall kitchen glass. Best by 1/11/23. This can is labeled "Világos Sör", but this appears to be "regular" Borsodi.
Appearance: light golden hue with almost no apparent effervescence and a head of frothy white foam that doesn't stick around super long. Not bad, but not as pretty as it could be.
Smell: a bit of malt with plenty of adjunct aroma that reads to me as a bit plastic-y. Not awful, perhaps, but not great.
Taste: malty up front, followed by a watered-down version of that adjuncty flavor. I don't know what's worse: the adjunct, or the lack of flavor at all. Mostly inoffensive, but not very good.
Mouthfeel: light body with a big carbonation and a reasonable creaminess.
Overall: I mean, I bet it's great at a beach. But it's a pretty meh beer.

From the tap at Mazel Tof in Budapest. As close to the source as you can get, but it tastes a little dank, like an inexpensive American lager. A little watery. But a bargain at 500 Ft.

Funny to see that this Borsodi is rated similarly with Soproni classic - while the latter is way better.
Although Borsodi has always been "the beer" in Hungary, was not the one that made me like beer - if it was only for this, I would have stayed away from these type of lagers for good.
Why I don't like Borsodi? Because its watery, its corny, it has a weird dry, dust-like bitterness to it and a lot of unnatural carbonation. Not really what I would look for in a good beer.
Must admit that I have had worse than these but still, as Soproni can, Borsodi could also try to come up with something new, especially in these recent times of craft beer galore of Hungary.

Reviewing it again after many years in 2024.
Now Borsodi is made out of pure malt, no more corn starch in there. Looks and smells nice. Does not taste bad either but feels a bit thin and a bit bitter at the back end. Still, it is a huge improvement from the Borsodi I used to know.

It fits the low standard of Hungarian industrial lager.
