Straight from the R&D progam at Firestone Walker's Propagator pilot brewhouse comes Gen-1, a new-generation unfiltered IPA that is loaded with bold character and devilish drinkability. Gen-1 exhibits a style that bridges both the West and East coasts, with intense aromatics and flavors of peach, grapefruit and pineapple. Trial batches of draft Gen-1 generated high demand - and now it arrives in cans for the first time ever.

16 oz can from Bier:Thirty. Light haze on the body with a thick fluffy head. Gentle citrusy aroma with some bready notes. Taste features lemony flavors, citrus peel, pineapple hard candy. Full bodied, dry and sticky.

CANother day in at the Post Office & I am getting used to it! My feet & L knee are pretty sore after a 10.5-hour shift, but after CANming home & getting some shut-eye, I feel better. I am ready to have a beer or two in support of The CANQuest (tm) with this being my first of the day.

From the CAN: "Leo v. Ursus"; "Gen-1 Unfiltered IPA (India Pale Ale)"; "Hop Varieties [-] Citra: USA[,] Profile[:] Tangerine Zest, Fruit Punch & Pomelo[;] Mosaic: USA[,] Profile[:] White Peach, Mango & Nectarine"; "From the Crucible of Conflict Comes Beer of Great Intention."; "Beer Before Glory".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass stein that I recently scored. The CAN read "Unfiltered" so I was attempting clarity, but it was to no avail. I got two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, French Vanilla-colored head for my trouble, though. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose smelled especially of tangerine, nectarine (orange-y) & peach. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had the fruit punch quality attributed by them to Citra, but I would CANter that such is the trademark of Mosaic. Simply put, this was a fruity riot! I believe that Mosaic should always be paired with CANother hop & Citra was not a bad choice, but I was not getting the bitterness that I look forward to in the style. Instead, it was a rolling amalgam of fruit flavors with peach being the most repetitive. Interestingly, mango was the least perceptible & that is part of my hang-up with Mosaic: too often, it is simply tropical fruit salad, which gets old after a short while. Here, such was not the case. Finish was semi-dry, lacking a perceptible bitterness, but certainly not anything that CAN be CANsidered "sweet". The lingering taste was of peaches & frankly, I was down with that. YMMV.

Golden and slightly cloudy with lots of carbonation and a finger of off white head.

Smells of dank pleasure and mild tropical fruits.

Tastes of dankness, tropical fruit, an almost white wine like quality, grapefruit pith, and chalky candy like sweet tarts.

Medium, dry body with lots of carbonation.

I got this in Redding where I am drinking it April 20th, 2019. Excellent brew.

16 oz can, canned on 11/15/18. Pours very hazy orange yellow with a small creamy white head that goes to a thin film and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is sweet bready malts, citric fruit and some resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malts with some fruit and a grassy bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, decent but the flavor didn't really do it for me.

First impression from a 16 fl oz can acquired as part of a 4 pack for $10.99 USD at a Whole Paycheck:

Tropical but strangely sweet...definitely an India Odwalla Ale evoking more fruit juice than beer. Lacks adequate hop pungency. Mosaic's signature blueberry gets buried beneath pureed tropical fruit notes. Citra's characteristic rich citrusy flavours aren't present to the extent they ought to be in an IPA brewed with Citra.

Citra and Mosaic is a classic combination that's hard to mess up - and this doesn't - but neither hop is particularly well showcased or well utilized.

Certainly drinkable, but its quality isn't on par with its pricetag and it's not a particularly notable IPA. Needs more assertive hop character, bitterness, and pungency to really stand out in the oversaturated style.
