2018 marks Binny's Beverage Depot 70th anniversary. To help celebrate this milestone, we collaborated to create a beer utilizing a uniquely Midwestern fruit, the Paw Paw. Nicknamed the "Hoosier Banana" or "banango", this peculiar fruit has sweet custard-like aromas of mango, banana and cantaloupe. We chose a blend of young wild ale and a barrel aged hybrid beer to help accentuate the Paw Paw uniqueness. A vibrant golden straw hue is accentuated by notes of tropical papaya and mango concluding with a hint of orange blossom honey. We congratulate Binny's 70 years and many more to come. We hope you enjoy. Sante!

Poured from 375-ml bottle into a champagne flute, Clear yellowish-orange in appearance, with a thin white head that dissipated in short order. Bottle date on this was 5/23/18. Huge aromas and flavors of fruit and funk, with tartness taking center stage. Everything seems to play together nicely: the sourness is not overpowering, allowing the fruity flavors to come through. (Perhaps this has something to do with being bottle-conditioned for over three years - who knows?) At any rate, a well-crafted and enjoyable quaff.

375 ml bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 5/23/18, had 10/22/19.
Pours a bright, clear yellow, with a half inch foamy head and a good amount of foamy lacing. Active carbonation. Aromas of yeast, funk, some mango, lemon, a generally fruity aroma, light malt, oak. Smells lightly tart and sour. The flavor starts out fairly sour and with some tartness. Then, a fruity overall taste, light malt, light funk, some white grapes and mango, oak, light banana. Has a definite sweet note on the finish. Smooth, kind of refreshing, a solid light to medium body, well carbonated.
Have to admit, I can’t identify the fruitiness, but it is fruity. I have seen a paw- paw, but that doesn’t help. This does pack a sour punch that lingers. Overall, it was very enjoyable and as I got it at more than 50% off, it has a great price point!

Bottled 5/25/18; drank 4/7/19 @ the Yarchives.
Cloudy yellow/orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small bright white head; almost no lace.
Oak, sour margarita & faint booze heat notes in the nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
SUPER sour margarita vibes here, with some mild oak mixed in.
This tastes like a spring break cocktail gone wrong; for sure the first Barrelworks beer I've hated. I still love the series, but this was an abomination.

Thank for the assist to whoever got the exponential 2 in the beer name, couldn't figure that out! As for the beer, the pawpaw gives off a mango like smell, with sour french oak, banana, melon and pineapple supporting. Taste has a sweet tart like finish, not bad but interesting, fits the french oak well. Otherwise a tropical fruit sour with some brett. Has a little sugary feel to it, decent sour pucker on the end. Cool tropical sour with interesting fruit

Beer is a light golden straw color. Initially it pours completely clear with a thin white head that dissipates quickly and completely. Later pours have some sediment resulting a cloudier pour.
Aroma has some light tart notes of citrus and a tropical fruit (Im assuming that is the paw paw). Some light oaky notes are there along with some Brett. Really nice aroma all around.
Taste follows the nose with notes of sour citrus, tropical fruits and some Brett. The Brett takes on a nice tropical profile in this beer. Bit of oak on the back end. In terms of the sourness its like a 6 out of 10 - definitely sour, but not too much. the sourness isn't so much up front as much as it lingers on the palate. Really nicely blended.
Feel is light, drinkable, and smooth. Sprightly carbonation. tart finish provides a slight pucker.
Overall this is a lovely beer from FW. The paw paw plays so well with the underlying wild ale. I know this was a collaboration, but this should be a regular release from FW.
