92% French Oak, 8% American Oak; 12-48 months in barrel
Feral One is our flagship anniversary wild ale, originally released to commemorate the opening of Barrelworks in 2013. Made as an ode to the great Belgian lambics, Feral One is a cuvée of specially selected lots aged for up to five years in oak barrels and chosen for their pronounced similarities to the Belgian style. Heady and complex; funky, fruity flavors and a crisp tartness tempered by softness on the finish.

On tap at The Brass Tap, Cedar Falls, IA; served in a 5-ounce "snulip" glass. Appearance is reminiscent of apple juice, with light orange highlights and a finger of white head that hangs around for a bit. Fruity and funky, a little oaky, with a kombucha / apple cider vinegar thing going on in terms of flavor and tartness. Very dry and crisp, with a hint of tartness lingering on the finish. May not be everyone's cup o' joe, but I'd recommend it if you enjoy a tart wild ale.

Draft. Amber with shorter head. Lambic like aroma that's tart and lightly barnyard funky with a definite woodiness. A little grass, herb. Flavor follows. Bone dry with decent tartness.

Appearance: Clear golden color with a medium sized thick white head that gradually subsides to a thin white cap. A nice looking beer.
Smell: Mild musty notes, grassy hay notes, and some faint sweet floral notes.
Taste: Tart citrus fruit notes, modest grassy/hay notes, and some sweeter orange notes come through in the taste. The beer finishes moderately dry but starts off with some sweet and tart citrus fruit notes and ends with some mild oak and hay notes on the tail end. Very clean finish. No alcohol presence in this one.
Mouth-feel: Light bodied with a fairly generous level of carbonation.
Overall: A good Wild ale. The beer has a nice taste profile with a very clean finish. I need to seek out some of the other batches.
