Collaboration with Yakima Chief Hops.
Order Of The Hop started with the news that our brewmaster Matt Brynildson will be awarded the Order Of The Hop at the International Hop Congress in Prague in recognition of his years of service to the hop growing industry. One of the other recipients of the award is Pedro Venegas from our hop supplier Yakima Chief Hops. Yakima Chief approached us to see if we wanted to collaborate on a special beer to commemorate the occasion and we got to work. We knew we wanted to brew a crisp pale ale with a huge hop aroma, perfect for sessioning during the impending hop harvest. We decided to feature Cryo Pop which is a new hop blend that is designed to give exceptional aromatic impact through identifying and then amplifying specific aromatic compounds of different hop varieties through the Cryo Hops process. We also added experimental hop varieties HBC 586 and HBC 638, which bring complex tropical and berry aromas. Finally, we needed a classic hop to bring it all together and decided on Simcoe which was the original defining hop of the West Coast IPA heyday. We wanted to let the hops take center stage, so we tailored the malt bill to add just the necessary support, adding a little Munich malt to our standard pale malt to achieve a deep gold hue. Order Of The Hop was fermented with our house ale yeast and is unfiltered, displaying a light haze.

Can poured into a Firestone Walker Brewing Co pint glass
A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.
S: Super bright tropical and stone fruit, citrus, a touch of pine, floral notes, faintly grassy, biscuity malt, and light caramel sweetness.
T: Tropical and stone fruit, white peach, passion fruit, guava, apricot, and a hint of kiwi and starfruit, light citrus, pink grapefruit tangerine, and lemon, a touch of pine, floral notes, slightly grassy, crackery biscuity malt, and light caramel sweetness.
M: Light to medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: As soon as i heard about this one I wanted to try it and was lucky enough to have someone rolling through and able to snag me a can.
Most breweries would probably do a big DIPA and hop the hell out of it, but this is very much Matt's style. Light, crisp, and letting all the cool flavors those experimentals bring shine.
