Can pour - dark coffee brown, short khaki head, minimal lacing. Nose is roasty malt with hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste follows more or less. Light carbonation with a slightly sweet bitterness lingering on the finish.

Pours dark brown with a light bubbly tan head. Nose is malty and slightly chocolate and slightly coffee. Lots of carbonation in this beer. Taste was malty with the carbonation pushing the flavors across the palate. Mildly bitter on the backend.

Proving once again that there's lightness in the dark, the schwarzbier is simply an anomaly- dark, but light and Firestone Walker demonstrates how something so robust can drink so easily.
Not quite black, but very dark brown, Shadows in the Light floats a creamy mocha-whipped froth and a moderate scent of cocoa, coffee, roast, caramel and vanilla ahead of a sweetness that celebrates dark chocolate, dark roast coffee and nougat. With hints of light cream and honey, the sweetness fades and the light bitter roast sets in to create an arid char to balance the fading sweetness and to dry the palate.
Medium bodied and trending dry, the session is fuller than many German schwarzbiers but is a good, just robust version of the style.
