Here's another oddity from a brewery that demands a deep breath before you open one of their mystery bottles. This one gave only a reassuring pfffft, and poured with a genteel foam. Lovely golden color with swirls of lacing in the New Belgium snifter. Light cake batter aroma, a touch of vanilla and pear liqueur.

Sweet and hot but utterly clean. The Belgian yeast is very, very slow to assert itself, which contributes to the clean and mellow taste. Except for the hot alcohol, which is actually quite pleasant in this firewater concoction. Fruity and nicely carbonated in the mouth. A winning turn on the strong ale theme.

My favorite of the Russian Roulette brews from Epic. From the 750 ml bottle (crown capped, thank you) purchased at Bottleworks in the Wallingford neighborhood.
