Peg's (Doug's) Berliners are amazing; this is the fourth wildly successful variant out of, by my count, 4 released attempts. That said, it may be the least favorite of the bunch (though it is undeniably successful overall.) The brew pours a hazy golden hue and is topped with a short-lived white wispy cap. The look is not dissimilar to, say, Shock Top or Blue Moon, save for the richer amber tone found in those brews cited. The nose is straight-up green apple Jolly Rancher. Straight-up. Nailed it. I get almost no other impression. The flavor shows a bit more variables, including a spicy white pepper note, an intense sour fruity melange, and some acetone-like harshness on the finish. The harshness referred to is not really harsh in a negative sense; it is more like the harshness and/or brutality ascribed to RIS or Double Stout (though this is obviously a departure from the world of big Stouts.) The feel is very refreshing, and immensely quaffable despite the relatively puckering nature of the brew. Overall, this is not the best of Peg's Berliners, but even if it is the worst - it is a phenomenal taste sensation, and worth checking out.
