Poured from a 12 ounce glass into a Lost Abbey Teku glass. No date stamps. Whole Foods was billing this as an exclusive. "Whole-icious Wild Sour Mango IPA. Distributed by Twelve Percent LLC, Brooklyn, NY"
3.5/4/4/3.75/4.25
A: Fizzy head immediately fades. The beer is a hazy orange-yellow.
S: The fruity smell escapes the glass and bursts of tropical fruit waft. Up close, there's some funk and vinegar.
T: It's light and refreshing (/watery) with subtle, pleasant, and expected flavorings -- citric acid, lactic acid, Brett funk, tropical fruit, maybe a trace of new-school hops (no real bitterness). Juicy and tart.
M: Light and brief.
O: Enjoyable, pleasant, fruity, interesting, quenching, drinkable. What more do you want from a beer?
Notes
Brewed with mangos
Hops: Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic
(from Tenemu)
“The beer first underwent a souring fermentation with lactobacillus then boiled, hopped and refermented with the wild yeast Brettanomyces and again dry hopped,” said Brian Strumke, owner of Stillwater, in an email to Tenemu. “It has a huge juicy/floral nose from the mango and hops with thirst quenching acidity accenting tropical flavors.”

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Very soapy and small created bleach white head. About two fingers tall with little retention falling to a soapy collar. Opaque body color not totally turbid but close with a dull lemon orange color on the appearance.
Quite a nice aroma. Tropical fruit sensing hops and sharp funky yeast tones. Nicely balancing each other, juicy tones and fruit funky esters, with a faint touch of earth. Muted sweetness as well to give a little sense of balance.
Flavors turn out in a bit of a wet mess. Watery slightly body for either a wild or an IPA in particular. Watered down juice and peppery funk slightly with a sense of mango and light funk. Some ashen like flavors get out a bit on the swallow too with an odd bit of dryness. Solid sense of simple hop bitterness on the end as well.
Interesting okay take on a beer, but a bit missing and schizophrenic in the palate.
