I got a late start on NBS (Week 774) & I did not finish up my DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure as planned. 8=( Further, I promised that NBS (Week 775) would be dedicated to the wonderful beers sent to me by @jkblr who seems to have a real handle on my drinking habits. CANsparency is key in these things! As a result, I am going to CANcentrate over the next few days on eradicating everything that would have CANbined to form the finale of the DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure. Sit down, strap in & hang on. It's gonna be a wild ride!
From the CAN: "Double India Pale Ale brewed with Pineapple, Cacao & Vanilla"; "Contains: Milk Sugar"; "Created with Cacao Juice from Repurposed Pod".
This just sounded fascinating from the listing of ingredients on the label! I beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting Glass. I was not really CANcerned about clarity so I let it kind of free-run until the building head became too much to handle. It ended up forming two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with excellent retention. Color was a cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM => 5, < 7). Nose was redolent with pineapple with vanilla not far behind. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, which was a little light for an AIIIPA. Oh well. The taste was very evocative of a tropical smoothie. I was put in mind of a Pineapple Julius from the now-defunct Orange Julius stand at the local mall! Mmm. Finish was semi-sweet, very fruity, very tasty, but not very much IAW the style description. Oh well. YMMV.

From the bottom of the can and onto the rim: "SW TROP1-" "6758"
Appearance: The body is mostly opaque with some light coming through and changing the color but not adding to visibility. the body is beige and orange-gold. the head is short and white with little retention, fading out to a ring.
Aroma: There is a nice bold aroma of spruce and mint with some alcohol coming in at the back.
Taste: Up front there is a nice spruce flavor with a touch of wood presence in the middle. It has a very woodsy character. The middle has a bit of pine and a touch of mint.
Mouthfeel: It has a medium thickness that is a bit chewy. Bitterness is low for a "double india pale ale" (as indicated by the label on the can).
Overall: The woodsy aromas and flavors are great, but it doesn't seem to be what this beer is after. The label states that this is "brewed with pineapple, cacao & vanilla" which all seem to be mysteriously absent from the beer. As this beer has clearly missed the mark, I really don't recommend it and i wouldn't drink it again.

On tap at Of Love and Regret in Baltimore. Pours a somewhat hazy gold, with almost zero head. Initial impression is a rather odd combination of citrus (pineapple and mango), vanilla, and maybe some caramel malts in there. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and sticky; carbonation is minimal but adequate. Finish is sweet and not particularly bitter. Overall, I can't say that this concoction would be something I would revisit.

Pours a rocky somewhat thin white head. Liquid a moderatly hazy and a beautiful golden color.
The nose starts strong with pinapple and vanilla. Also has notes of guava and sweet oranges. Definitie boozy note in the nose as well.
Initially, the flavor seems a bit muddied. Overall, it is strongly pineapple, but the pineapple doesn't quite come off bright enough. Definently vanilla in there as well. Not really getting much in the way of cacao. The bitterness at the finish reminds me of citrus rind, but without being citrusy (that's the best I can describe it). Quite a sweet beer, and the bitterness doesn't really wash away that sweetness.
The mouthfeel is a bit chewy with a medium-thick body. The carbonation is moderate. The alcohol warmth is quite noticable and is more distracting than I feel an 8% beer should be.
Overall, this beer is a bit of a miss for me. The sweetness of this is so in-your-face that I can't really taste much of what else is going on in this beer. It really needs to tone down on the hot alcohol notes as well. Now, at about the half way point on this pint can, I'm thinking I might have to give this guy a drain pour.
