General Gose has a thick, loud, fizzy, ivory head, a clear, bubbly amber appearance, and no lacing. The aroma is of indistinguishable grain. The flavor is of sourness, some saltiness, cereal grains, and finishing with a slight chili powder kicking in. General Gose has a medium body and a medium-dry finish.

A: crystal clear; orangish gold in color; less than a 1 finger white head that receded quickly to nothing; no lacing;

S: a little funk and a little salt;

T: a little funky for a moment, then mild orange tartness through the finish; a bit of salt at the end; I didn't get the chili pepper until the aftertaste of my second swallow - it's there, but not overpowering;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;

O: well done; the flavors come through nicely;

Aroma is very strong salt and fruit/tropical fruit. The flavor is fruit/citrus, malts/wheat and an increasingly spicy chili/heat/slightly tart finish.

I got a late start on this past Sunday's NBS (Week 774) & I did not finish up my DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure as planned. 8=( Further, I have promised that next week's NBS (Week 775) will be dedicated to the wonderful beers sent to me by @jkblr who seems to have a real handle on my drinking habits. CANsparency is key in these things! As a result, I am going to CANcentrate over the next few days on eradicating everything that would have CANbined to form the finale of the DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure. Sit down, strap in & hang on. It's gonna be a wild ride!

Speaking of Wild, thanks to staying with BAL & MD, I now have a Leipzig Gose as my next beer! If this keeps up, I'm going to get my status as a hophead in good standing revoked! 8=(

From the CAN: "Sour amber wheat ale brewed with orange peel powder, thai chili powder, sea salt and msg seasoning."

I took a short break to regroup after that previous one, but having returned, it was now time for a Crack! of the vent & a slow, gentle C-Line Glug to CANtinue the day's CANebration. I was very impressed with its initial clarity so I CANtinued in that vein. I wound up with just over a finger of fizzy, foamy, rocky, bone-white head that quickly fell away to a skim atop the beer. Color was a gorgeous Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was really spicy, very much of the chili powder & right behind it was its inherent saltiness! Mmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but close. The taste was quite spicy as a result of the addition of chili powder as an adjunct, but the citrusy orange peel also asserted itself while the salt was more low-key. The addition of the chili powder really was a game-changer in this beer. It beCAN slowly, but built to a roaring crescendo by the end. It just became too spicy for my taste, causing me to sweat & my ears to begin ringing. My lips were tingling & eventually burning & I became glad that I had only purchased one. This might have been better served as an Herb & Spice Beer since it could have been just about anything after a while. Finish was super dry, salty & spicy & I felt like I needed a beer to wash it down! YMMV.

msg in beer? come on, this was going to be gross from the start. the first miss i have had from these guys in ages, but even without the msg, which i think is kind of mild in here anyway, this isnt great, the sourness isnt clean, the maltiness is odd, like it being an amber instead of a pale wheat gose is a weird choice, and the orange powder doesnt taste very natural to me, hard to make craft tasting beer with what dont really seem like craft ingredients, and this ends up more a novelty to me than anything else, a little in my glass was plenty, i wouldnt want a whole can of it, no way. the chili is subtle, really doesnt add a lot of flavor, but it does give a little heat in the throat when i swallow each sip, which clashes a little with the salt and the sourness. this is quite salty as they go. the souring is a little stinky dishtowel-esque to me here, which is not how these types of beers usually are from stillwater, and there is a curious bitterness from the orange that comes on late that i find odd. the whole thing is just disjointed, kind of forced, and even though the msg is (thankfully) not a huge contributor, the beer just doesnt work very well either way. i really dont see the appeal of this one, but i guess its neat that these guys keep trying to make extremely weird beer. they hit more often than they dont. props for being unique, but i dont want to drink this.

Dark orange with a bubbly head that quickly disappears. Orange citrus aromas, along with some spice and funk. Taste is tart and spicy, with the chili pepper and msg creating a tingling heat. On the lighter side, crisp, refreshing, and dry. A very interesting and enjoyable spicy gose with a unique twist from the msg.

BBE January 31, 2020.

I wanted so badly for this to be awesome. The color is good, but it’s overpowered by tart citrus and salt. The chili heat starts to build after a few sips, but overall it just fell short and drinks pretty bland. I will say it’s got that familiar MSG essence I remember from so many college nights.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 1/1/2021. Pours lightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange peel, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light chili/peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of orange peel, fruity/acidic yeast, sea salt, pale/wheat malts, and light chili powder notes; with big strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange peel, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light chili/peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tang/tartness; light citrus peel bitterness and chili pepper spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange peel, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light chili/peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of orange peel, fruity/acidic yeast, sea salt, pale/wheat malts, and light chili powder flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and no puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tang/tartness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic, and lightly sticky/saline mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%; with minimal lingering chili pepper heat after the finish. Overall this is an excellent gose. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of orange peel, fruity/acidic yeast, sea salt, pale/wheat malts, and light chili powder flavors; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/drying finish. Not overly lactic/salty. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great balance of orange peel, salts, Lacto complexity, and pale/wheat malts against acidity; with mild chili pepper presence. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressively spot on style example as expected.
