The rebirth of an original, a rebellion against what was and is no longer. Brewed with Galaxy, Citra and Columbus hops partnered with an inconspicuously mild malt profile, Insurrection is a Double IPA brewed to stealthily assault the palate with dry, citrusy, dank flavors and just a hint of sweetness on the back end.

Not quite what I expected, ESPECIALLY from an IIPA. Poured a deep dark orange with a decent head. I will agree with most of the other commenters, the aroma is FLAWLESS. Out of this world rich. The smell got me giddy like a 10 year old on christmas morning. The flavor, however, was a drastic let down. The hops were present, bright, and bitter. But the sweetness, like a juice that was poorly mixed with dry malt extract, was crazy strong and the body seemed poorly fermented. My initial taste was of an off, almost wild, fermentation that never was allowed to complete before racked to a secondary. I really wanted to love this beer, but I couldn’t get past the body, taste, and fermentation. The smell, however, will be stored deeply in my memories!

Clear, green hued gold color. Small head but it creates a blanket of lace.
Oddly, I smell paper, like freshly opened loose leaf.
This starts off like an incompletely fermented beer using malt extract. Which is to say that this has (sweeter) elements reminiscent of a barley wine or doppelbock. The body is nearly devoid of carbonation but it's slightly watery, so the whole thing works in an odd way. The aftertaste is a nice blend of sweet and bitter from a modest hop presence.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip
A: Slightly hazy orange with a 1.5 finger head that slowly settles
S: Fresh hops, mostly citrus zest and tropical fruit
T: Wow this is sweet. Almost undrinkably so. The bottle says "just a hint of sweetness on the back end" but it hits you up front with sweet pineapple and orange then a very malt-heavy midpalate and a malty/earthy finish
M: Full-bodied from the malty sweetness
O: At first I didn't think I could finish this. I did, but only by sipping it very slowly. The hops are nice, there's just too much malt & not enough crisp

P: Golden amber, two finger white head. Great lacing n the iace, huge on the glass.
A: Hops, pine, floral
T: Resinous pine, citrus, (not one in particular) floral, tropical fruit (mango)
M: Nice balanced brew, decent carbonation, smooth finish with a well rounded bitterness.
O: This is an exceptional IIPA for little money. There's some breweries could take a page out of this book.

I completely agree with RoyalT's review.
This beer smells amazing but doesn't follow through with the flavors to back up the bouquet. The flavors are there, and you get an initial tease of an herbal pine-grapefruit but that is massively eclipsed by an abrasive single-note bitterness that finishes and lasts until the next drink.
I will say however, that I picked up a bottled pint (750ml) at Jungle Jim's in OH for less than $5. Which makes this beer an interesting try instead of the disappointment it would have been at a $10+ price point.
