Beginning of 2017, we acquired a second set of 21 Oloroso and 7 PX barrels and aged young lambik on them for another year. We lost 4 barrels along the way and we blended 12 barrels for this blend and 12 barrels for batch 6 (blend 50). Average age of over 2,5 years upon release, no backblending. 100% 3 Fonteinen brewed lambik.

Pours a fairly clear golden light amber with low, wispy head.
Smell is tart and fruity with notes of citrus, funk, brandy, oak and hints of grappa, lemon peel and sherry.
Taste is on the border btween tart and sour with some fine acidity and discreet bitterness. Now, there is alot going on in this beer, but everything is well interwoven and subtle, making it quite easy to drink. There are notes of lemon, lemonpeel, grapes, Seville oranges, grape skins, oak, dry white wine, grappa, sherry and funk, all swirling around. Stunningly complex with layers and layers of subtle nuance. Sublime.
Mouthfeel is medium, dry and softly carbonated.
Overall, a massively impressive beer. All the nuance made me glad I had a whole 750 ml to myself.

750 mL bottle. Pours a bit clearer than Batch 21, but no head. Smells sharp and oaky. Sour orange and dried grass. Tastes much more sour than blend 21. Sharp sour orange and sour vinous notes. Heavy oak astringency with a touch of cardboard. Low carbonation. More sour than the Blend 21. Not quite as good. And more reminiscent of the Batch 2 Solera that I didn't love.

From a bottle at 3F. This (blend 5) was my least favorite of the 3 Zenne blends (3, 5, & 6) that I had at 3F Lambik-o-droom, but honestly they were all so good. Of the 3 Zenne's this was the only one that didn't require decanting, which is a bit of shame because the decanter is so beautiful and adds to the experience of having so a precious beer. Nevertheless, this beer has the same superb balance of flavors as the other Zenne's. Delicate and rich at the same time.I loved all 3 Zenne's as much as the top Cantillons that I had been drinking the 3 days prior, but this blend (Batch 5) was least my favorite of the 3, partly due to the use of younger lambics, I think. Still, this beer is a delight.

Zenne b5 @ obd on 190907
Yields an amber-yellow colored beer with a lighter lacing covering the rim of the glass.
Smells of cardamom enriched old grapes, entangled into old wood and blue cheese. The funk is quite present in this one with additional layers of dried mushrooms and old apple skin.
Tastes of a tartness, which is a little more sour than the nose indicated, a little acidic with a touch of basement library and lots of limes. This makes the barrels in this appear a little lighter and not as complex as in other Zenne blends, although with a noteable spiciness. Finishes with moldy forest earth, a touch of toffee and old, spicy wood.
Mellow, tart, with just a lighter barrel impact, this one tastes a bit younger than the other blends.
