16oz can
Pours a small finger of white head into my Willi glass. Retention is below average, and the head fades within a minute. Initial lacing looks decent. Body is straw yellow, crystal clear, with minimal bubbles coming up. Looks meh so far.
Nose is tangy and zesty, just slightly earthy as well. Faint notes of tropical fruit and maybe stone fruit. A touch of sweetness, but it generally seems dry. I’m surprised there is not more fruit with the Idaho 7, and Enigma additions. Smells good and clean, but the tangy, zesty citrus notes are not really my thing.
On the flavor you definitely get some of that tang, almost vitamin c like at times, faint earthy undertones, finishes with significant jam-like stone fruit. The finish is nice, but the majority of the beginning and middle of the palate is oddly flavored, somewhat watery, and quite bitter/abrasive. After a while the palate smooths out a little bit, but it still doesn’t work super well for me; a sessionable “summer” IPA is fine, but this hop profile doesn’t deliver on that for my taste.
At first that bitterness is through the roof, to an offensive level; the palate adjusts, but it is still quite high. Definitely on the drier side. Carbonation is just below medium. Body is on the lighter side. After the bitterness comes down to earth, this is not bad.
Drinkability is rough at first, smooths out with time.
Appearance turned out poor, zero lacing.
As the flavor smooths, the stone fruit comes forward over the other flavors a little bit, which is nice. That said, the flavor is still pretty light, and the bitterness is still a little high. Overall this takes way too long to find its footing, and has way too many holes to be something I’d want to revisit with haste.
