500ml bottle
Pours a finger of white head into my snifter. Retention is average, maybe a little below that, and the head fades in a minute or two. Initial lacing looks poor. Body is a deep orange, nearly brown. Looks poor so far, what else would you expect from a sour?
The nose is pretty soft for a sour, no doubt from the juice added. You definitely get the lime and grapefruit, but it’s not overly acidic. Very faint notes of tequila. I’m not usually a sour fan, so this bastardized version is inviting.
Flavor is very sour, much more dominant than the nose, but that fruit plays nicely. Lime and grapefruit are both distinguishable. Can’t pick up too much tequila or barrel-y notes. I guess if I’m looking at this from a critic’s standpoint, it still tastes like beer, albeit sour beer. Pretty good.
Carbonation is medium. Body is very light. A touch of sweetness. Bitterness is imperceptible. Acidity is palatable. Overall it’s an approachable mouthfeel.
Drinkability is pretty good, all things considered.
Appearance turned out bad, big surprise.
A nice approachable sour that doesn’t venture into smoothie territory. Nice.
