Pours a four-finger khaki head that fades slowly, leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights. Light-medium carbonation and heavy bodied. Nose is baker's chocolate, flavor has hints of caramel but mostly baker's chocolate. Higher ABV (10.5%) is hidden. $3.29 for a 12 oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Pours nice but aroma is medicinal like rubbing alcohol. Taste similar to aroma and watert mess. Basically a massive disappointment from start to finish

T : was looking for more but the booze was still the main note w some raisin and roasted malt
Overall enjoyable but left me looking for more mouthfeel and depth of flavor

Pours opaque, black in color with minimal head. Taste is chocolate, char, oak, and caramel. Heavy bodied with low carbonation. Sweet and roasty. Makes for a very good roasty treat. Really impressed with this one. I will get this again.

L- Thin khaki colored head that dissolves quickly, leaving a light lacing on the glass.Silky jet black colored body, with no light showing through the glass.Light amount of carbonation.

S- On the nose I get dark roasted malt, smoked wood, toffee, black strap molasses, dark roasted coffee, black licorice, and dark chocolate notes.

T- On the palate I get chocolate and licorice up front.Dark roasted malt and smoke in the middle. It finishes off on the back end with dark chocolate,a faint hint of dark coffee, and some smoke.

F- Heavy on the mouth feel, with a silky texture.Low amount of oxidation on the tongue. There is a slight presence of alcohol warming after the sip, although you cannot taste any alcohol.

O- This is a good textbook Russian Imperial.I can definitely see myself drinking this one again. If you are a Russian Imperial Stout enthusiast like myself,I suggest you give this one a try.

Picked this up at the brewery back in April. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice very dark black hue with a thin half finger mocha head that fades slowly to leave a thin blanket and light lacing.

S - Aromas of nice roasted malts, light light chocolate, faint nougat, dark malts, light sweetness. Very straightforward.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, big dark roasted malts, light smoke. Very faint chocolate, nice malt sweetness, light caramel. Very straight forward.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, smooth, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this was a solid, straight forward RIS. The roasted malts are great along with some nice light smoke. Very solid.

L - Pblack with ruby red edges and less than half a finger of light brown head. Leaves no lacing or coating on the glass.

S - Lots of coffee and roasted malts. Dark fruits and cherries with black licorice.

T - Cherries, plums, and raisins hit me first. Not a lot of coffee, but it has Old Ale flavors of molasses and wood. Has a general smokey quality and herbal/minty hops. Subtle dark chocolate and caramel.

F - Perfect. Thick and soft and coats the mouth. No alcohol presence, but has a slight warming.

O - Excellent RIS without having to add flavoring or age in barrels.

Dark brown where no light shine through the edge. Tiny head which leaves no lace.

Deep, semisweet chocolate aroma. The chalkiness is quite low for the style. I like that. Light alcohol.

Strong, dark cherry flavor with the aforementioned semisweet chocolate--a combination that works. There is also an alcohol presence, but it is subtler than I expected. Fuller body than many stouts and with a lower carbonation. The aftertaste is more of the same and it lasts a very long time.

A strong, foamy tan head tops this boot black brew. Aroma of dark chocolate, grain, cotton candy and grape. Tastes of toffee, milk chocolate and dark fruits. Berry and burnt sugar mingle later. Medium in body with a silky-smooth mouth-feel like few others. Run of the mill in some respects, but plenty of flavor and character to keep things fairly interesting. Would love to try others from Wormtown.

Got lucky with this one. Saw four packs on the shelf and never heard of this beer before. Wormtown makes the Be Hoppy which is a decent IPA, so for $19.99 - I bought the four pack. Poured into a 12oz tulip glass and although the head was delayed - a very nice mocha colored half inch head appeared. Lacing on the glass was nice as well. The aroma was a bit boozy - as this beer is fresh. But the flavor was outstanding and had serious depth to it. I like a chewy beer and this one had it for sure. Overall, I am looking forward to trying this again with some age on it. Great beer - pick it up.

12 Oz bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: A one finger mocha head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pitch black.color with no vision of anything. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Milk chocolate, caramel, lactose sugar, molasses, smoke, tobacco, toasted, and warm boozy alcohol.

Taste: Creamy and sweet milk chocolate, lactose sugar, char, molasses, caramel, tobacco, some leather, toasted, warm alcohol, and ashy bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Silk smoothly, creamy, ashy bitterness, medium bodied, medium carbonation, and warm boozy alcohol.

Overall: Another solid offering from these guys out of Worcester. Very tasty and enjoyable. Will look forward to more of this in the future.

On-tap 5/30/2016 at A1 Pub in Fall River, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep black color, with a large dense beige head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains roasted malts, chocolate, some coffee and some smokiness.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of licorice, chocolate and coffee. Then a hearty roasted malt character quickly follows along with a touch of smokiness in the background. The hops presence is faint as expected in this type of beer but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly smoky.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, strong kick, very good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Glad to be seeing more and more new Wormtown offerings available in four and six packs in the Middlesex County, MA area. Though I'm unabashedly a fan of bombers when they're not out-of-control expensive, I enjoy affordable bulk pricing more for "normal" things like this. Four bottles of big ol' RIS for $13? You could certainly do a lot worse. But, how's the liquid in the bottle?

Pours a thick, sludgy black with a small ring of mocha foam. Lace show is pretty sparse and surface is vaguely murky. Head re-rouses slightly to a darker, fudgy color after each sip, building up a bit before settling down once again. Not bad but nothing to write home about.

Nose is dark fruit, treacle, molasses, dark chocolate, husky roasted grains and espresso mainly. A touch of herbal hops and a suggestion of smoke seem to poke out here and there, but neither are the stars of the show. Ethanol component seems about on par with other double-digit+ stouts I've had in the Russian style; a bit volatile and heady but not perfume-y or overwhelming by any means. Again, I'm certainly not blown away and this mostly seems par for the course. Safe but solid.

Taste is chewy, viscous chocolate maltiness with a definite raisin/plum/toffee component. Pretty robust and enjoyable with its fudgy, malty notes. More earthy, herbal hops and a touch of bitterness on the back-end to balance the big molasses and dark sugar notes on the mid-palate. Not much smoke, a bit of ethanol bite. Shows itself for what it is: a big, rich stout. Nothing too subtle here but definitely worth a drink.

Feel is a bit higher-carbonated than I'm used to but definitely gets more rounded as it warms. Body is thick and chewy, as noted above. Warming but not really harsh or overly-attenuated. Good stuff here. Was glad to have four and would probably revisit again once we're back in the warmer months.

Bottled 4/28/16, poured into a pint glass.

Amazing RIS. I was worried about hoppiness since Wormtown's M.O. is excellent IPAs, however this was nice and malty. Great nose, and perfect mouthfeel. Seek this out to try!

Poured on tap at the brewery.

Pours a black color with a 1-finger creamy off-white head. Minimal retention but a ton of lacing.

Aroma has lots of sweet chocolate balanced by the coffee. Get some caramel and toffee on the back end.

Flavor is slightly more hoppy than I would like in a stout. Slightly spicy and piney from the hops. Dark malts and sweet chocolate are present, along with plenty of roasted coffee.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty smooth. Alcohol is we'll hidden.

Overall, a solid RIS. Just a bit hoppy for my liking. Has a nice mouthfeel and drinks more like a regular stout. Pretty decent beer.

Tap at the brewery

Decent smaller creamy head, nice lacing, pretty much pitch black, decent legs.

Nose plenty of dark malts, black patent, some roasted notes, little fudge and coffee, chocolate fudge nougat marshmallow cocoa, touch of cookie dough, caramel, earthy.

Taste big creamy lactose out front, chocolate milk, nougat marshmallow fudge, dark choc cocoa, touch of earthy tobacco, faint dark fruits, some roasty notes and black malts but very little, faint fruitiness, soft tree fruits, little char and coffee like roast with touch of earthy hops late. Now spicy earthy hops late, fair bitterness, little fudge cocoa and marshmallow nougat lingering.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, lush creamy almost velvety, decent carb pretty much no booze.

Overall pretty nice, nothing crazy but a nice well done ris with soft fruity notes even, nice dark malts without being overly roasty or charred, nice creamy lactose and chocolate, no booze, pretty tasty and well executed.
