Enjoyed on tap at the brewery.
A - Poured into a standard pint glass a nice dark brown almost black hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave nice lacing and a creamy blanket.
S - Aromas of rather heavily smoked malts, super faint chocolate.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with lots of smoke, to the point of almost being bbq sauce like. As it warms the chocolate comes out much more and starts to taste more like a porter.
M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, little creamy, alcohol is hidden nicely.
O - Overall this was a mess of a beer. Maybe if it was marketed as a smoked beer but as it is this is far too smoked for the style. Completely distracts from the porter itself.

Glad they bottled this one, since I can't get out to the brewery much anymore
Pours a decent fizzy bubbly smaller head that fades at a med pace, a fair amount of lacing, very dark brown color
Nose lots of toasted malts, biscuity brown malts with a lot of smoked malt aroma, campfire, generic smokey, some caramel and biscuity toffee, a bit of chocolate, but pretty much no barrel, smoke overpowers everything
Taste is a bit better, mild smoke with a little campfire but thankfully doesn't overpower everything like the nose did, plenty of toasted brown malts, biscuity, caramel toffee, a touch nutty, a bit of tingly warming alcohol surprisingly, touch of cocoa, creamy notes, and a bit of earthy bitter hop, and smoke bringing a touch of briny. Finish is a bit boozy, a bit more smoke, biscuity brown malts, caramel, no bourbon again
Mouth is med bod, a bit creamy, boozy, and fluffy carb almost too much carbonation
Overall, well this was a mess, still going with my concept that collaborations are 90% of the time a mess because both brewers want to do their part and nothing usually merges well. For this, smoke overpowered anything good on the nose, alcohol was much higher than it should have been drinking like an 11% beer, base malts were OK, but the briny smoke then smashed that, carbonation was also too much, and probably the worst, there was absolutely no barrel or bourbon character. OK Ben, what's going on???
