First off an Imperial Stout is my favorite still of beer. I compare all to Stone's Russian Imperial Stout that has been aged at least 2 years and rate it as 5.
Draft, chilled.
Look: It is black, not notes of red around the edge as it should be. The head is reasonable but disappears quickly as it is drunk and leaves does not leave much line on the glass.
Smell: I could not find any. Nothing bad so rated it in the middle. Rather typical for a fresh Stout. They really need to be cellared to develop a good nose.
Taste: Complex but a little bit sharp. Almost but does not completely hide the taste of the high alcohol content.
Feel: As expected for a American Imperial. Not as thick as a Russian. Needs to be a room temp to really tell.
Overall: Good but not great when fresh and chilled. Need to try it at room temperature. Since fresh it is so complex of flavor it would really be interesting how this will taste after 2 years in the cellar. It really has potential. I need to add some to my cellar.

Bottle
L pours like clean oil, not think dark brown. 2+ finger light tan head, nice lacing.
N: light roast coffee, brown sugar, fresh cookies.
T: light roast coffee, molasses, little sweetness something I can’t place
F: in good way old school stout , not cloying or overly sweet .

Overall a complex stout, complex flavors but nothing overpowers. Whish I grabbed a couple extra bottles, nice it was not a lactose and adjunct bomb

Split a bottle of this with JLindros.

A - Poured in to a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that faded to leave thin wisps and a thick halo.

S - Aromas of chocolate nib, roast, nice nuttyness. There are good barrel notes, creamy, rich, coconut as well which could be from the barrel or were added. Also getting a fair amount of vanilla and marshmellow notes.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with tons of dark chocolate, powdery and dry, There are good fudgy notes in addition to some sweeter bourbon barrel and almost caramel. There is some good sweetness as well in adition to some light nuttiness. The finish is more bitter roast in addition to tons of dark fruity chocolate/coffee elements that linger. The alcohol is warming as well.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonted, creamy, alcohol is hidden nicely though slightly warming.

O - Overall this was rather solid imperial stout. The barrel notes are great but I truly do wish that Ben and Wormtown actually stated WHAT they added to this beer instead of making it a mystery. It'll be interesting to see how this holds up to some age.

Pours a med foamy tan frothy head with med retention, lots of lacing, very dark basically black color, great legs too

Nose brings rich dark malts, roasted malt, coffee, nutty coffee, fudgey dark chocolate, nice nutty coffee with some chestnut and macadamia nut like characters, some coconut, a little marshmallow maybe?, vanilla and oak barrel notes, little baking spice and dark chocolate, a little cookie dough

Taste super rich again, loads of chocolate, cocoa, dark chocolate, big coconut, powdered cocoa, a bit or roast and coffee, back into baking spices, cookie dough, a little marshmallow, a bit nutty again like macadamia nut and maybe walnut/chestnut, a bit of roasty bitterness, fair vanilla as well but like barrel vanilla not the vanilla spice, lots of powerdered cocoa, no real alcohol, then some spicy hop getting a bit more bitter late, spicy earthy hops kick in with the roasty bitterness, a little cocoa, lingering, coffee, a fruity coffee, etc, started really nice but finished a little meh

mouth is fuller bod, rich creamy thick, med foamy carb, almost no alcohol

Overall solid, a nice RIS with some interesting adjuncts, don't know exactly what;s there, but I think I get a few of them, wish I knew, but still nice
