On tap at Vintage West in Madison, WI. 10oz pour in a tulip glass 10/12/2014.
A- Dark brown-caramel body, minimal head, not much lacing. Looks pretty much the English Barleywine that it's advertised to be. [3.75]
S- Tootsie rolls, caramel. Some nice oxidized flavours of dark fruits, sorta like port or sherry. A bit of vanilla too. So essentially vanilla tootsie rolls. [4]
F- Tastes like vanilla tootsie rolls too. Lots of toffee and caramel, some dark fruits, a nice earthy hop presence as well. A little bit of vanilla. The dark fruit character comes across more here- plums come to mind- than it does in the nose. Nice stuff. [4]
M- Solidly medium bodied, substantial, lower in carbonation, a sipper. A slight alcohol burn. Finish is dark fruits and toffee. Very sweet. [4]
O- A sweet English-style barleywine that was a nice sipper. Enjoyed this one, it's no Bligh's Barleywine but I definitely appreciate the English take on the style more than the hopped up American varieties. [4]
