64 oz growler split and poured into a Duvel tulip. 5.9%, filled on 02-01-11 at Vintage in Madison, WI.
A - Slivers of clarity show through the almost fully black beer. It's topped by a tan head of short-lived, one-finger stature but the small pile left over hangs out for a while. Nice patchy lace is left clinging to the glass.
S - Freshly brewed, black, cold coffee with a hearty roasted malt backing. Awesome coffee aroma. One-dimensional but very inviting nonetheless.
T - Delicious cold coffee has very dark roasted notes but also great flavors of a Breakfast Blend or Columbian coffee, as in noticeable, specific coffee flavor, not just 'coffee'. Roasted chocolate malt and a mild, "cold" finish without that pesky metallic accompaniment that's so frequent with the cold flavor or sensation.
M - Very smooth and well-carbonated without being intrusive, there's a very well-balanced light bitterness and dryness to the finish. Medium-light-bodied.
D - This beer has crazy good drinkability for the flavor, feel, and near-sessionable ABV, it's one delicious coffee beer! Honestly, it seemed fresher and much more flavorful on tap at Vintage (no discredit to their filling as it was directly to the top of the rim). I'll just have to re-review it on tap.
