3 oz tap pour into a tasting glass at Vintage Brewing Co. in Madison, WI during Madison beer week.

A - Totally black in color, the other barrel-aged Max also has a low tan head with low retention, from the high alcohol undoubtedly.

S - The rye whiskey stands out more in Max than in the dubbel, biting and strong. It compliments the roasted malt and vanilla notes very well.

T - Intense but well-balanced molasses pairs with the bold roasted malt and strong, bolder-yet rye whiskey.

M - Full-bodied, thick, rich, and compete with low carbonation, the feel has a smooth, warming finish.

O - This barrel-aged RIS is strong but a damn good sipper and is a great beer that's bold but not beat-you-over-the-head.
