BLAUW is an export beer, a beer type of bottom fermentation that was very popular in the 1950s. At that time, heavy manual labor was very important and the workers drank beer regularly.
At that time, export had a lower alcohol percentage than the regular lager and it was always offered in 33cl. That way they could drink more beer, without their work performance having to suffer.
Today, the export beer from Brewery Omer Vander Ghinste is called "BLAUW", because it was the color of the clothing that the workers were wearing to work. It is still offered in bottles of 33cl, but now has the same alcohol percentage as the lager. (5.2% alc.vol.)
BLAUW is brewed exclusively with natural raw materials: water, corn, barley malt, hops and yeast. Without the addition of preservatives, BLAUW therefore has a limited shelf life (9 months) and is preferably consumed as fresh as possible.
This beer has its own beautiful glass, although the real BLAUW drinkers prefer to drink from the bottle.

This beer is still produced by Bockor !
Blauw is an "export" beer, a pilsner type that was very popular during the Fifties.
The appearance of the beer is very nice. A bright and clear golden lager with lots of carbonation. The head is white, thick and has very good retention.
The aroma is fresh, malty with touches of hop. Very inviting.
The beer is well balanced and thirst quenching. An excellent mouthfeel.
What more can you axpect from a lager ?
Watch out: Blauw has a limited shelf life. Drink it right after purchase and very cool.
