Choss is advertised as a Triple IPA. I had the beer on tap on 02/09/2013 at the brewpub. The beer was a light copper color in appearance with a generous foamy 1 inch head towering to the top of the tulip glass. The lacing on the side of the glass was admirable, staying for quite some time. The aroma was a little more muted than I would have preferred. There was a slight hoppiness, but very little citrus evident in the scent. In the initial taste, one gets orange, grass, and a big shot of pine. The orange notes become a little more prominent in the aftertaste with a malty backbone making its most obvious appearance. The bitterness really begins to come through in the aftertaste. I might go so far as to suggest that the aftertaste is a lot like bitter grass.
I would certainly have this one again. It is more flavorful that a beer that is just trying to be an outrageous bitter hop-bomb. It has some nuances and character that make it interesting.
