Awesome to see a local Barrel Aged Scotch Ale again (Gude Greg). This is part one which has been aged for three months, parts 2,3,4 will be 6, 9 and 12 months. Sounds good to me.
A- Dark brown ale poured into a pint glass. Light tan head forms to a few fingers and size but dies down to just a cloud fairly quickly. Creamy ring with only a few small lace spots.
S- A nice balance of barrel and beer. The beer has a buttery, caramel sweet, dark fruit, butter and toasty brown malt notes. In the aroma the barrel seems to add vanilla and slight whiskey hints.
T- A great balance of brown sugar, caramel malts, vanilla, maple, big butter, oak wood, slight whiskey and dark fruits as well as raisin. It all blends very nicely. Fairly sweet but it works with the present flavor.
MF- Creamy moderately thick body with foamy carbonation. Slick and sweet feel on the palate.
Impressive for 11% ABV, it feels like it could be 5%. The buttery and vanilla/maple/sweet hints blend awesomely.
