This beer was brewed one time and released for the 100th Anniversary of Ryan & Casey Liquors out in Greenfield, MA. It was exclusively sold at that liquor store on a first come, first serve basis.
Look (4.5)- Completely opaque solid black/extremely dark brown body. Lighter brown highlights around the edges when held to a light. Creamy, decent sized, off-white/light brown head that fades to a light brown film over the top of the beer which lasts for a very suprising amount of time considering the 11.5% ABV.
Smell (4)- Licorice, dark cherry, oaky, a slight vanilla/bourbon mix, sweet malty booziness, the slightest touch of smoke maybe?
Taste (4.5)- Lots of flavor in this one. Dark cherries/dark plums/candied dark fruits in general, a little oaky, very very sweet, malty, slight hint of bourbon. The high abv is apparent but thats expected at 11.5%
MF (4)- Very smooth, slick, nice and warming as it goes down. I think its just a litttle too thin. Not thin enough to be a turn off though, its still a 4.
Overall (4)- This is the first "big beer" I've had by Lefty's. It says on the label "barrel aged imperial maple stout" but with all the dark fruity flavors its almost like an imperial stout/quad toss up...very unique. When I finally got out to Ryan & Caseys in Greenfield, MA they only had 6 of these left, so I bought 3 at around $11 a piece. I've drank 2 already but the 3rd Im gonna lay down for a while to see if that 11.5 boozy bight will mellow out a little. I personally like boozy malty beers but with this one I feel like it may be masking some of the other flavors.
