Ammersino is tucked away in the suburbs of Vienna, in the district of Hietzing. It is separated into 3 sections: Beer, Wine and Liquor. The beer section, the most important obviously, is situated right up front. The selection is quite good, considering that this is a bit of a hole in the wall. There are over 270 beers from Europe, Asia, Austrialia, the UK, the US and South America. The majority come from Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, but there is a surprising variety. They also have a nice selection of glassware scattered among the beers.
The foot traffic is quite low, generally I am the only customer on my visits. The staff are quite knowledgeable and helpful. Overall, the place kinda gives the impression of a depot or a warehouse, probably because of the great number of packing crates lying around out back. In fact, this store makes the majority of it's business by serving as a distributor to most of the high-end supermarkets in the area. Meinl am Graben buys craft beers from Ammersino and then doubles the price.
The prices are quite reasonable, and a bit surprising, given the low customer count. But the beer is always quite fresh and there is always a really nice sortment.
The best way to get there is to take the 60 Straßenbahn to Hofwiesengasse. Then walk across to Speisinger Straße.
