Dark brown in color, plenty of orange-red highlights. Head is served about a half inch thick, pretty tight, but it recedes rather quickly and there's virtually nothing left the rest of the beer.

Aromas and flavors of sweet, dark fruits; moderate Belgian-style yeast influence of clove and other spices. Hint of pepper. Enough power in the nose and flavor in the mouth to be interesting if not particularly complex. Fig and caramel-sweet malt are prevalent.

Mouthfeel is full, not lush, but somewhat creamy. General lack of carbonation is interesting; I've noticed this before in Papago brews, that while it's nice for the flavors to mellow on the tongue, it's also nice to have a little scrubbing effect to keep any off-flavors or overly dominant ones from making too heavy an impact on the tongue.

Not bad - certainly not playing with the big boys of the BSDA category, but they call it a Belgian strong ale, and it's dark enough to qualify. Tasty and pretty drinkable.
