Strong like a barleywine but smooth because of the golden wheat used to brew it. Another one of our original beers.

I had this one on tap.
Poured a deeper and cloudy golden-amber color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of floralness, wheaty, and toasty. Tastes of the same floralness, wheat, toast, and I was getting a very light citrus. Alcohol content well hidden.

This is my second wheatwine, but so much more of what I envisioned the style to be like.
This ale is served in a tulip style glass and appears a brownish-orange hue in color. Very nice head, semi-dense with various sized bubbles. Very nice lacing that follows down the glass to the bottom.
A sweet nose with a musky scent thrown in. Smells like a grain shed. Nice. I think I can detect the alcohol in there as well.
Tastes great. It's not like a barleywine and it should not be. It drinks like a wheaty beer-wine. I can taste and feel the warming of the alcohol. Slightly sweet caramel taste in there with a smooth grain flavor. This is a very tasty beer, very nice.

This is my first wheatwine, so I won't be able to judge by style much. If I make an errant barleywine comparison don't be upset.
Very nice looking ale, dark brown with orange-red highlighting. Head has largish, soapy bubbles interspersed with more tightly packed foam. Great lacing, and the head lasts all night.
Aroma of sweet caramel malt, big fusel alcohol pepper whiffs, slightly fruity. Flavor is more of the same, just a bit thinner than a barleywine, with the same smooth malty chewiness. The pungent hopping shows its face later in the drink, definitely leaving a bit of an impression on the finish, and lending a very pleasant balance.
Big ale, lots of warming alcohol, and very sticky when warm. Not a perfect recipe for drinkability but this is a hell of a good beer.

Pours dark copper, clear, with a dense, thinnish, white head.
Caramel coated fruits and vanilla in the nose.
Pears, banannas, and chipped toffee with a splash of dark rum.
Medium bodied, slightly gummish, and a bit chewy.
Warming and spicy pallet, tropical, with a rounded caramel profile.
Bitterness is modest, along the lines of a bock, and keeps the residuals in check.
Vanilla steps forward as it finishes, with a lingering warmth under the juicy wheat/barley character.
This was served via a Randall stuffed with untoasted oak chips, according to the server.

The beer was served in a small sniffer off cask a translucent hazy brown with a tan long lasting head which was long lasting and frothy to lace the glass.
The aroma was fruity wheat with caramel. The flavor was fruity with caramel and a decent bittering. The flavor also contained a nice wheat character and some malty sweetness that was well balanced.
The finish was dry with a lasting caramel and wheat into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a low carbonation due to the cask conditioning.

Apricot. Aroma of honey, toffee, caramel and apricots. Tastes of toasted oak, toffee, honey, caramel, bread and banana. Seemed to have an oak influence. Love, coating, silky mouthfeel. A good wheat wine, though it wasnt quite as good as other wheat wines I have tasted.

I ranked this under the cask conditioned even though I didn't have it on a beer engine. I recently had a new version of the beer that they added cognac flavored oak chips to that added a great flavor and complexity to the beer. Still nice, clean and sweet but now it had a more whisky/brandy/port like taste. Makes a great cigar smokin beer.

This interesting beer pours a caramel brown with a good white head. The aroma is not overpowering, but you do get a good wheatiness out of it. This is very dry for a barleywine. The flavor has a lot of biscuit flavor from all of the wheat, but not a lot of fruitiness. Dangerously easy-drinking for such a big beer.

Sampled on tap at Papago.
This ale poured a clear, reddish amber color with white foam that settled. The smell was very nice: scents of roasted banana, caramel, and a hint of alcohol. The taste was a very nice malty and fruity (mild touch of banana) flavor with a mild shot of hops in the finish. The mouthfeel was clean and smooth and airy with medium body and low carbonation. This was a very easy drinking ale, with little warning of its strong abv.

This beer is an amber color. Fruity aromas come from my glass, there are notes of cherry, and a bit of astringency as well. The alcohol that is in this beer is evident in the nose as well. The alcohol is evident in the taste as well. This wheat wine has a finish of banana, it is not incredibly strong but it is a definite contributor to this beer. The beer is lightly sweet, with not much bitterness, and a nice firm body appropriate for sipping. This is a nice interpretation.

Originally sampled on draught at Pizza Port's Strong Ale Fest on 7 December 2002. I'm writing this review from my notes.
This pours a clear amber color. It is a very smooth and silky beer to drink because the alcohol is well hidden. The nose has some frutiness to it. The wheat adds some nice complexity.

I sipped this with a glass of water handy on a warm day, and it was wonderful. Surprising in charachter: alcohol presence very big and warm, but color was far lighter and aroma was restrained compared to the barleywines of my past. This makes this one of the most drinkable barleywines, and thus, dangerous. A unique selection, to my experience.
The perfect barleywine for a hot dry desert? Yes! The water helped with hydration, and also helped with some of the sweet malt characteristics. But what a lovely dry finish... not cloying at all.

Deep cloudy amber, "Chill Hazed", decent white head, tonnes of lace. Nose is sweet, citrus, lightly floral, tad yeasty, malt and quite "Sniffable". Front is malt sweet, the top is middling, finish is surpassingly hopped, thoroughly dry, and the high abv makes this a joy to "Quaff" Ranks a respectable #177 on my current 1000 beer masterlist
