Got this one at the Duvel guy down the road.
From a bottle into a snifter
Best before 27 May 2016
APPEARANCE: Pours a fluffy, looser, two finger, white head with very good retention. Clear gamboge orange in color with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a thin foamy cap and sticks to the sides of the glass. A splotchy wisp remains and leaves some foamy lacing down the glass. Good looking.
SMELL: Pale malts, caramel and grassy hops on the nose. Green fruit, mostly apples and pears, with some spicy cloves and yeast as well. Quite bold and entertaining.
TASTE: Caramel sweetness, pale malts, green apples and spicy cloves up front. Flavorful. Mild but lingering aftertaste of spicy yeast, green fruit and caramel sweetness, grassy hops and a dose of well-balanced floral bitterness. Flavorful, interesting, complex and well-executed. Good stuff.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch dry.
OVERALL: A solidly done steroid blond. This has all the right curves in all the right places, and brings out the best aspects of this classic style. Really enjoyed the bold flavors and aromas in this one and appreciated that everything meshed really well together, which isn’t always the case with other strong pale ales here. Wonderful stuff and would gladly drink more. Cheers!
