Our Dark English Mild is reddish brown in color and wafts aromatics of charcoal and almonds. The body is light and quaffable with notes reminiscent of fruitcake and bran muffin.

On tap at Beer Belly in Los Angeles, CA.
A- Dark brown, not quite black like a porter, but fairly dark in character- more so than a brown ale, but not quite a porter/stout, if that makes sense. Half finger white head in a shaker pint; not much retention but does persist as a thin-medium collar. No film or much of lacing.
S- Rich cocoa, roasted malts. So weird; this smells like a porter. I was confused enough to double check with the bartender, but it is indeed the correct beer. There isn't much of anything else that says it's not a porter, though. A little bit of earthiness, coffee, some milk chocolate. No dark fruits.
F- This tastes a little more like an English brown. A bit sweeter than a typical porter; more milk chocolate and a good bit of nutty sweetness. Nice graininess and a bit of orange marmalade, I suppose, but earthiness and nuttiness are the predominant flavours here.
M- Thinner bodied, but not watery or lacking in depth of flavour; nice carbonation and solid drinkability. This is a nice after-work/happy-hour beer.
O- I was surprised by this one; I was expecting something more like an English bitter, but this is in between a bitter and a modern-style Porter, but is exactly neither in terms of style. Very interesting.
Final score: 3.83
