Appearance: Black with an enormous long-lasting tan head.
Smell: Faint sugary malts.
Taste: Sweet up front, caramel, malts. Just bitter enough to balance that in the middle. A little bit of bready yeast. Not much aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: A bit on the thin side. Well carbonated.
Overall: Solid porter. It’s not super complex or thick; just smooth and tasty. Sometimes that’s the ticket.

On tap at Sweeney's Ale House in Encino, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, roasted nut, cocoa powder, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, nut, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but the mix of aromas is slightly better to me.
Serving type: on tap.
