look: one finger white head with good retention, not much lacing, dark amber coloured beer, super hazy, nice bit of carbonation in the glass.
smell: straight away when i opened the bottle i thought it smelled good, it’s aroma quickly filling the air, lots of tropical and citrus fruit flavours, lemon lime and mango dominate, but there is also a strong backbone of caramel sweet malt, some roasted flavours too, there’s a real pleasant sweetness to the beer, so while it doesn’t smell tremendously hoppy, it still smells good.
taste: it’s so malty! it’s like a bitter crossed with an ipa, and i can’t complain, it’s really tasty, that caramel sweet toasty smoky malt flavour comes through first, and then a wave of sweet tropical fruits and citrus fruits, mango is definitely the fruit flavour that comes out on top, a pleasant zap of bitterness on the finish without being overwhelming, and then some fruity aftertastes remain, notably lemon, quite good.
feel: medium bodied, medium carbonation, crisp and refreshing, a super sessionable beer at 4.6%, without being low on flavour too.
overall: yeah, definitely one of the better things to come out of the lockdown, this is my first porterhouse beer which is pretty shameful seeing as there is a porterhouse bar across the road from my college, but it will be the first of many now. good stuff indeed.
