Now that I have begun really diving into the Bottle backlog here at Chez Woody, I am unstoppable! Yes, it means suspending The CANQuest (tm) for the moment, but the thought of being rid of these pesky bottles for once & for all is so heartening that I almost do not have words. These next bunch were all purchases through Tavour & as I have said repeatedly, I have no real beef with them. It was their inflexible local shipper + the continual adding to the backlog that led me to part ways.
From the Bottle: "Nicky Farms presents the Chef Beer Series"; "Beer Notes from Chef Troy[:] Bollywood Theater combines the bright, spicy and fruity flavors of Indian street food with the best products grown in the Northwest. It is in this spirit that we've created a pale ale featuring pomegranate and Darjeeling tea, a few of our favorite ingredients from the Indian subcontinent. The beer is easy drinking with soft, earthy notes of toffee and a refreshing touch of tart fruitiness for balance. It's super food friendly, but we hope you'll find yourself enjoying it with your favorite Indian snack. Cheers to good food and beer, and supporting our community. I Pop!ped the cap & began a slow, gentle C-Line pour into the awaiting glass. It foamed up nicely to form just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention, leaving nice lacing in its wake. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose had the tart fruitiness of pomegranate with a light tea scent. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was VERY light & mellow with the tea really giving it an ethereal quality. The pomegranate was not as pronounced in the taste as it had been on the nose. Finish was semi-dry & certainly quaffable. I know that I built it as an APA, but it would probably fare better as a Fruit & Field Beer or an Herbed & Spiced Beer. It just did not measure up to its style. YMMV.
