Look: Pours a dull, medium orange with a fluffy pure white head that slowly settles to a pillow, leaving great lacing behind

Aroma: Coconut, pineapple, fresh-cut cedar wood, mango, kiwi, light tangerine, and bready malt

Taste: Whoa. Opens up with a big hit of cedar and quickly after, layers of pineapple and coconut pile on, reminiscent of a pina colada. As that combo starts to back off and develop depth, kiwi, citrus, and some mango show up to play and go back and forth with the pineapple/coconut/cedar until it closes out

Mouthfeel: Full, clean, medium-high carbonation, and clean and smooth on the finish

Overall: I dig it. This is and always has been a really interesting IPA due to the Sabro hops used so had to finally review it in case I miss the chance. Sabro’s presence is felt throughout with the coconut/cedar/pineapple and quite prominent at that, plus the beer doesn’t have a huge bite and is very easy to imbibe. Like many/most Sabro-hopped beers I’ve had , it would be a one and done for me as it’s kind of odd but well-made and fits the Gilgamesh mold of being different. I hope these folks keep their brewery and brand alive as they are a fun change in what can sometimes be a monotonous beer world with their interesting and unique offerings

GILGAMESH – PACIFIC CRUSH 6% abv
I found this in a Roths store where it was pulled off shelves after the news that the brewery is facing declining sales and pulling out of retail stores and producing enough beer only for their 3 restaurant’s. The flavor is light and refreshing with a mix of kiwi, pineapple skin and mango flavor. Pacific Crush is made with only Subro hops which produces a brew similar to a Hazy IPA style beer. I like it and most hazy beer drinkers ill as well. It gives those hazy fans a beer with a different hop taste and one I think most will really like.

Tall can poured into a HotD snifter. Pours out lightly hazed straw gold with a small fluffy white head. The nose has that familiar malty presence with a resiny hop presence as well as some floral, piney citrus notes. Pretty strongly floral though, almost reminds me of a Belgian IPA in that regard. The palate is smoother and less bitter than I would expect from a PNWIPA; the malt profile shines through with those same familiar floral, pine, and citrus hop flavors. Smooth and light body. Nothing too special overall.

Lightly hazed gold with three fingers of cream color head. Rings and splotches of lace appear as the level drops.
Smell is fruity hops and bread crust malt.
Taste is citrus leather light pine bread crust malt.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Finish is dry and mildly bitter.
Overall a tasty West Coast IPA. Easy drinking and satisfying. Canned on 6/30/20.
