i was totally obsessed with the dj jazzy hef, which i assume to be the original one of these, done with jasmine tea, it was so bright and crisp from the can, so flavorful and distinct, a beautiful fusion and style twist. i was so pumped to see a new one, on tap and good apple, but this is pretty rough, not sure if it got canned or if that would make it better, but this doesnt even seem like the same base, and my guess is the fruit replaced the tea, not included in addition to it, as that element isnt really here at all. its murky and dull looking from the tap, no real head at all, and not enough bubbles when i drink it so it feels messy and heavy. the aroma and flavor are soapy and almost chemical to me, the fruit seems astringent and unnatural, a combination of mostly fermented out and being more like juice than whole fruit, some tang in here is disruptive to the earthy wheat foundation, and whats more, there is a heap of residual sugar in this too, so its sits sort of yucky on the palate for awhile after each pull. the ferment is weird as well, white winey when i am being positive, dirty and phenolic when im not, it just doesnt dry this out or brighten it up at all, it works against cohesiveness, and the pomegranate, in the end, does absolutely nothing for this. super disappointing, but it doesnt ruin my memory of the original. i hope to see that one back here in idaho again soon. this was an unexpected miss for me...
