This is our offering to the hop heads! A decidedly hoppy, bitter, and moderately strong American IPA. We use a generous amount of whole leaf Cascade, Nugget and Citra hops to showcase the freshness and citrus flavors that these hops provide.

Today is Su, 14 October 2018 & the occasion of Oh, Boy, It's JoBoy's New Beer Sunday (Week 712). I bought a Variety sixer of bottles on my last visit & I got pics taken, resized & approved yesterday, so all systems are green & go. This one marks the end of the day, encompassing four new beers (including this one) & two revisitations. The current name of "Hoptitude" confounds me since it was taken from their website, but the bottle reads "Hopitude". I am working to unscrew this, but it has me agitated!
From the Bottle: "Our original India Pale Ale is just for the hop heads. Hopitude has hints of citrus to go with the floral aroma that comes from the abundant amount of American hops. A slightly bitter aftertaste but not overly harsh that will leave you wanting another sip, even after its gone!"; "At JoBoy's we specialize in hand crafted beer & authentic southern BBQ."; "80 IBU".
I had saved the AIPA for last since it is my favorite style & I was looking forward to seeing their interpretation. I began with a Pop! of the cap, followed by a slow, gentle C-Line pour into the awaiting glass. Once again, I was met with an uprushing of head that finally settled into just under three fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with good retention, leaving enough lacing for a family of four. Color was a hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose was definitely hoppy, but I am unsure that they are still employing the Cascade/Nugget/Citra combination as stated in the Notes. I'll buy Citra, since I was getting grapefruit & lemon, but I was also getting a fruitiness that might have been Mosaic & nothing that reminded me of Cascade. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium, but with enough carbonation to feel tingly on the tongue. I also agree with their 80 IBU assertion as it was about as bitter as I have gotten from a small-scale brewer. I applaud them for not getting so carried away with the dry-hopping process that the beer takes on a dusty, lupulin-powdery quality. That said, it lacked any malt presence & beyond Citra, I was having a tough time discerning which hops had been used. I still say that I was getting a blueberry flavor, which would be Mosaic, but beyond that … Finish was hoppy, bitter & dry, but I still felt unfulfilled. I applaud the attempt, but in a time when everything is seemingly an AIPA, this just adds to the noise & confusion.

On tap at the brewpub in Lititz. Scent of pine, citrus, maybe lemongrass; very hoppy taste and definitely a lot going on, maybe too much....hard to pick out individual flavor aspects but still a pretty good beer and I swear this had more of a kick to it than the stated 6.5%.
