Picked up a 22 oz bottle during a visit to the brewpub around Christmas. This was the last bottle at the pub so I guess I was lucky to get one. Im pouring the bottle at cellar temp into a snifter. The beer pours a clear mahogany hue with a creamy beige head of 2.5 cm foaming up and fading to a clingy edge layer and sturdy island of bubbles in the center of my glass. A few lazy strands of carbonation rise to the surface from the bottom of my glass.
The aroma is complex and fruity and sweet with brown sugar and plums. I also get some nutmeg and general spiciness in the beer. Overall the nose sweet with no hops and not too much booziness, which is surprising for this larger beer.
The first sip reveals very fine and tingly carbonation with an average body and slightly syrupy texture. Flavor is sweet just like the nose advertised with berries and sweet fruit notes of plum and some caramel and brown sugar. A little bit of spice comes in the middle with some cinnamon and nutmeg. The finish is some lingering sweetness mostly fruit and spice but again no booziness. But by the time the bottle is empty I definitely feel the beer some in my head. A very sweet winter beer that is enjoyable and dangerously drinkable. Hope they make it again for next Christmas!
