One thing that was not lacking in their beers was head. This one arrived with two fingers of tawny head with great retention. Color was a deep-amber with NE-quality clarity. BUPGOO! Now, I really did get the citrusy hops on the nose. The "cheat sheet" mentioned whole-leaf cascade, Nugget & Citra hops. I'll buy that! Mouthfeel was medium and it was definitely hoppy on the tongue and in the mouth. Finish evidenced some caramel sweetness, especially on the extreme finish.

a: I'm not sure what happened here, no other reviews mentioned excessive cloudiness. Mine looked almost like the hefe I enjoyed first.
s: Citrus-y hops and some sweet caramel take center stage, but there is a fairly strong yeasty smell as well.
t: The yeast is actually stronger here than in the smell. Maybe I got the end of the keg? I did find citrus flavors, but also some strong, leafy bitterness that wasn't all that pleasant.
m: Kind of slick bodied with creamy carbonation.
o: I really wanted to like this one. The hefe and ribs were both great, but there was definitely something off with this one. Hopefully, I get a chance to revisit it.

What's not to love with this truely "crafted" IPA.
A bold but friendly front end gives way to a broad tasty (malt subdued) middle that finishes crisp with lingering hop goodness. Body reminiscent of NW yet palate closer to SoCal with Nuggett, Citra and Cascade. Traditional yet innovative.
Hits the sweat spot for the hophead in me, wish it were available in bottles.

On tap at JoBoy's on 1/15/11.
A - Clear amber/orange color with a slight haze and a finger's worth of frothy off-white foam that retained well and deposited sticky, bubbly lace around the glass.
S - Pleasant Cascade hop nose with citrus notes and a hint of herbal attributes. As the liquid warmed up a bit, a slight buttery character emerged. Malt is sweet and caramely.
T - Opens with a crisp citrus hop bite then segues into a sweet malt aspect mixed with some buttery diacetyl. Finishes with moderate lingering floral hop bitterness.
M - Solid medium body with a syrupy texture and some oily slickness. Finish is slightly dry with a moderate bitterness that lingers for just a bit on the palate.
D - Good IPA overall. A little buttery but hoppy enough that it was still enjoyable. Not too malty, either.

Had this on 2010-06-04 at the brew pub (from tasting notes)
A - Dark gold with a 1/2-finger white head
S - Mild citrus, bread and candy
T - Grapefruit, biscuit, caramel, sweet/sour and reasonable bitterness on the aftertaste. (I'll guess the IBU=70) Balance could be improved.
M - Medium body and carbonation give a creamy feel.
D - Good but not extraordinary. I liked the Manheim Red better.

I'm a sucker for IPAs, so this one had me from the get go; served on-tap at the brewpub.
A: The IPA is a hazy golden straw color, lighter than I was expecting, even if it is nearly opaque. A half a finger of white head, dense as though on nitro, arrived with the glass. A good deal of lacing followed in strata on the side opposite from where I was sipping.
S: The nose is grapefruity and bold, thanks especially to the citra hops. In addition to the sweet pulp, a rindy peppery scent mingles. A strong smeller; my mouth was watering in anticipation.
T: My favorite from JoBoy's line-up, maybe only because I am an IPA homer. The grapefruit bitterness is sharp from the first sip to the last. Caramel malts try to buffet things but they can't hold a candle to the hops. The citra grapefruit stands out, sweet and sugary with a peppery finish. Cascades add subtler citrus flavors. The ale isn't danky and strong (see Ska Modus Hoperandi), instead it opts for intense citrus, a nice take I must say.
M: The mouthfeel is hop-driven, lots of citra and cascade. If you know me, you'll know that I love that. A good IPA.
D: Definitely my favorite, with a crisp hop bitterness that should please many hopheads. Very good.

I had this on tap at the brewpub in Manheim, served chilled in a pint.
A - A deep apricot fruit flesh color w/ pale cap. The bead is tiny and the clarity is translucent without any lace adhering to the glass
S - A sweet tropical nose w/ slight grapefruit notes. Mild mango-like scent from the Citra hops and slight orange rind note w/ light spice and hint of lemon
M & T - A more resinous feel than bitter as the acidity of the hops is balanced by somewhat sweet malt texture. There is a mild yeasty flavor from ringwood which also adds a creamy note and light pine accent comes through w/ mildly acidic finish. A slight citrus tastes is muted by the malt sweetness and brings the overall impact of the hops down a notch
D - A good IPA drinkability wise, paired well with the 'blazin chili fries'. I am not really a fan of ringwood yeast, but I must admit it has good flavor until the last 1/4 of the glass. I liked this but would prefer a drier finish personally.

On tap at the brewpub, served a bit too cold into a pint glass. The beer appears a very hazy golden orange color with a creamy white head that receeds fast leaving minimal spotty lacing upon the glassware. Hops present themselves with quite a bit of citrus in the aroma that at times seem somewhat lemony and grassy. Taste follows suit with the aroma and has a light bitter finish mixed with some alcohol kick. Medium feel with a lower level of carbonation. Mild malt sweetness is there in both the aroma and taste as it warms. Partway through the glass, the hops start to take on more of a grapefruit character in both the aroma and flavor. Overall not bad.
