A new porter from the rotating Darkside Series. The barbeque at JoBoy's is incredible. I already beerflyed the establishment but wanted to add that here as well.
A: The porter is a dark syrupy brown color that could pass for black in most places. A white head, a drop or two of espresso to darken it, sits nicely atop the beer and lasts for half of the pint.
S: The nose has a darker, coffee-driven aroma. Caramel that was so apparent in the Brown Porter is nonexistent here. Alongside the coffee aromas, darker chocolate malts fill the void.
T: The body starts off strong with a roasted coffee bitterness that quickly transitions to darker chocolate malts. The body is a little thin, neither flavor has the strength to linger. A small dose of citrus hops adds a fruity zest to the porter.
M: The mouthfeel starts off nicely before losing the coffee flavors. The thinness of the malt flavors doesn't leave any lasting imrpessions.
D: A decent porter for drinking with JoBoy's top-notch barbeque but not my first choice next time.
