A showcase of richness and complex, intense flavors. Our aged American interpretation is bigger and hoppier than an English Barley wine. It still has a balanced body and residual sweetness.

Aged 3 years according to the menu.

This was a clear, dark, ruby tinted cola colored brown. It came with just a ring of bubbles around the rim of the glass. I smelled a bit of sherry-like oxidation first, but it was pleasant enough. I also found some vinous raisins and caramel. Fairly muted overall. As this warmed the oxidation became less prominent and the fruit and sweetness shone through more. Towards the end of the glass a hint of chocolate emerged. Pretty decent overall, but with a steep $9 per glass price tag, one and done for me.

Review from notes taken on my phone back in either February or March of this year. Due to the "high" alcohol content, this offering only comes in a short pour via small pub glass. This brew appears a cloudy brown color with a thin lacing of bubbles across the top that is tan in color. A swirl revives the head back to a half finger which is quick to fade. Some patchy lace sticks to the glassware.

The smell of this brew is pretty sweet it has lots of fruity alcohol esters that come across like apple skins, a little green. Some caramel malt notes are evident along with a bold fusel kick of alcohol across the back. Overall it doesn't smell that bad the sweet fruity character seems to be a nice blend of hops, alcohol and malt. Perhaps just a bit young smelling though.

The taste is fruity with apple initially that blends into a light caramel note mixed with more fruity sweet tones. After a few sips an herbal bitterness evolves to balance things out. There is quite a bold fusel alcohol presence included which breaks things up and keeps this tamed as a sipper. Once the brew warms up, there is a light smoked aspect that lingers inside the mouth just faintly.

This is a medium bodied brew with a light level of carbonation. It was fairly easy drinking but seemed a bit young and an interesting arrangement of flavors. I would probably give it a try again if it was available but im glad it was only a short pour, I wouldn't have enjoyed any more than what I was served.
