A double IPA brewed with Crystal malt and 7 hop varieties. Loads of late hop additions drive home a bouquet of aromas and flavors.

This is just about as far away from an IPA as you can get. If it were labeled as a Red Ale, this scores closer to 4.0.

Can stamped 6/1 on the bottom.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a thick amber to soft dark orange color. A finger's worth of white foamy head slid off fairly quick to leave some messy lace running here and there.
The aroma had a strong caramel malt backbone running through some citrus and piney hops. With some warmth, sweet biscuit to toffee opened up with a touch of floral hops.
The flavor yielded to a blended sweetness of floral, citrus and grassy to the caramel to toffee strength of those malts. Mild sticky aftertaste of toffee, caramel, biscuit and toast.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Super long bitter finish. Carbonation and ABV felt fine. IBU's actually felt higher than 50 to me, though the brewer says 50.
Overall, if anything, it's actually a pretty good DIPA as an old school one, but I wouldn't compare this to these modernized DIPA's like New England styled ones or milkshake ones. Just think 'old school' while drinking this and you'll be fine.
