La Barberie "Black IPA"
on tap at the brewery on 5 Octobre 2014
$2.75 / 12.5 cl glass
Notes: Listed at 6.0% ABV. Black body with a creamy head of tan. The head drops but holds a solid surface covering, leaving streaky and spotty lacing behind. Somewhat restrained aroma with citrusy hops (mainly grapefruit0 and some dark malt. Intense citrus in the flavor (pith, grapefruit, tangerine) with strong pine over dark chocolate and a dull roastiness. Dry. Alcohol. Bitter. Medium bodied with a standard carbonation.

Smell of black chocolate, coffee beans, grapefruit and lemon. Taste is bitter. Coffee and sour grapefruit. Hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel is light, lack of roundness. Long and bitter aftertaste. Small sourness. Average beer and disappointing for a limited brew. Maybe a better use of hops would have changed taste for something better
