La Barberie "Stout Double Choco"
en füt via nitrogen dispense at the brewery on 5 Octobre 2014
$4 / verre de 12 ounces

Notes: Black body beneath a creamy beige head that displays good retention and lacing. Ashen-roastiness in the aroma but with little chocolate considering it's a "double chocolate" stout. The flavor delivers the same roastiness but with more dark chocolate and a suggestion of coffee. Smooth - no real dark malt acidity. Moderate bitterness. Chocolate and coffee in the finish. Medium bodied and creamy smooth via the nitrogen dispense. Straightforward and enjoyable, but perhaps inappropriately named.

Tasted this at the brewpub on April 24th, 2010. Very dark beer with a nice creamy head that stays the entire time. The aroma is coffee beans with some dark chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is creamy and coats well the mouth... very good stout. Drinkability is also one notch higher than good.

Barberie produce very good beers to have at the brewpub, however the bottles are not so good. All the tap version are near exceptional beer while the bottles is somewhat variable.

Sampled on-tap at Vices & Versa.

Appearance: Absolute darkness, with a 1/4 inch of cream.

Smell: Almost like chocolate milk, or somewhere between Yoo-hoo and the real thing. Lactic.

Taste: Silky, and faint cocoa chocolatey smooth, with a little roasted coffee finish, but almost no bitterness whatsoever. Guinness drinkers and their girlfriends will enjoy. I would have expected a lot more chocolate out this one, but it's easy drinking nonetheless.
