I really like this place as a local hangout! Relaxed, friendly, small, out-of-the-way, great micro-super-micro brew, AND close to my house so I can ride my bike and not risk a dui. HOWEVER, they recently started closing at 9pm Mon-Thurs!!! How can you be a BAR and close at 9pm?
It is 102 degrees here in the afternoon - it's not even worth going out until after 8... and if I head out after 8, do I want to go someplace where they kick me out 20 minutes after I arrive. THAT is just crazy... please reconsider this inane decision guys.

This will be a very one sided review as this is my bar...Well one of them. This is more of a local taproom rather than a brewery. Up to this point that is. They jusy upgraded their brew system and hired a full time brewer(Jim). So they should start cranking out there own stuff more regularly. The 8 taps are ever changing with a great selection at all times. The usual staples to be found are Marble Red and IPA, Sata Fe State Pen Porter and Pale Ale. The other 4 are up for grabs. They sometimes have Turtle Mountain, Chama River, Rio Grande, La Cumbre and who knows what else. They have chips and salsa and a few other food items. You can bring in your own food, or order pizza to be delivered there. There are bands that play in the back area. Overall this place has a small town friendly vibe. It is becoming more known, but with reviews like this I guess we couldn't keep it a secret forever.

We were traveling to California and stopped for the night in Albuquerque. BeerFly said we should stay as close as possible to Chama River Brewing so we chose a motel right across the freeway. However, BeerFly also listed Hallenbrick Brewery and the map said it as about 1/2 mile away. So off we went to partake of their hospitality. Good idea.
Yes, Hallenbrick is in a industrial/business park but easy to find and it has a small taproom and doesn't serve hardly any food. They had about 3 Hallenbrick beers on tap and while not exceptional, they were very decent and drinkably. However, they also had several guest taps from Chama River and from Marble Brewing in Albuquerque and at least a couple of taps from other New Mexico breweries. We could sit back and try a few brews from places we were not going to have time to visit individually. This made for a most interesting visit.
The bartenders were busy but were very attentive and had time to answer the few questions that we asked. It was a most enjoyable visit. The night we were there a band was playing in the entrance to the brewery itself so we didn't wander back for a look but we did enjoy the band.
If you are on the north side of Albuquerque, Hallenbrick is certainly worth visiting. Enjoy!

Well some other fine BA added this location, but never wrote a review.
I am in New Mexico on business and pleasure and making sure that I get to stop at the key beer destinations.
Hallenbrick is located in an industrial area and something that you won't just stumble upon. The location is very intimate and seats about 35 people. There is a bar plus about 4 high tops and a single couch. In the back is the area where they brew there own beer. There is a sign that say "employees only" but people seem to wander back there and check out the gear. The beer list is mostly guest taps from local brewers like Turtle Mountain & Marble. For someone traveling to the area this is a great list. Staff was very friendly as were the other patrons.
They had a neat concept called the "Buy Your Buddy a Beer Board." You can pre-pay for some beers for a friend for the next trip to the bar. I am in town for just a short time, but set up my friend with a couple of beers on his next trip to Hellenbrick. I liked the vibe of the place and enjoyed the casual atmosphere. Truly a pub in that all were meeting there to chat and unwind. I believe there was a food item available, but we didn't partake. Food is clearly not a focus.
I'd drop in for a couple as you plan the balance of your evening. Who knows, you may never leave. Good spot.
