A pint glass sampled at the Brewery and also a 16 oz. Crowley can taken home.
Poured into a snifter.
A thick. Muddy, clearly unfiltered white haze over a straw golden color. Smooth, all white tower of foam holds up high. A very active yeast keeps the center eye bubbly and creating a thin cover at all times.
A very sour, earthy, zesty yeast aroma pops right out, classic for the style. Citrus and sweet fruits, sour and dry holden wheat tinged malt scent comes next. Lemmon zest, white pepper and tropical fruits seem to merge seemlessly together.
A very fresh, zesty bite of tangy, sour yeast flavors just come blazing out. The added depth in complexity is evident from a slight vanilla-boozy, cactus effect of the cask barrel. Serious depth here. ...a funky yeast aged on Tequila cask is a very epic combo. Zesty, sour, wild fruits, boozy heat, oak-ish barrel cask....all splashes over a crispy, zippy, golden wheat like malty flavor. Unreal balance and exceptionally unique, especially for a "local " American version of th e classic Belgian/French style. My favorite style.
The mouthfeel and body is full-blown glowing healthy, smooth, unfiltered, thick, jazzy, juicy, slightly dry finish. Did I mention fresh??....maybe a bit extra heady and full.
Outside of the Cambridge Brewing co. This might be my favorite Belgian-style brew. A seriously complex and unique Saison.
